Winter Weather Safety Tips for Residents
As winter storms approach, we want to help residents stay safe, warm, and comfortable. Cold temperatures, snow, and ice can create challenges, but a few simple steps can help protect your home and your well-being. Please review the tips below.
Preparing ahead of time can make a big difference during severe weather. Our team is working to keep properties safe, and we appreciate your partnership in helping prevent emergencies.
Stay Safe Inside Your Home
- Minimize travel. Stay indoors during the worst part of the extreme cold.
- Do not use unapproved space heaters or ovens to heat your home.
- Report loss of heat, leaks, or maintenance issues as soon as possible.
- Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to reach water pipes.

Stay Warm and Check on Others
Dress in layers and wear warm socks or slippers indoors. Close curtains at night to keep heat in. If you can, check in on neighbors—especially seniors or anyone who may need extra support.
Use Caution Outdoors
Snow and ice can hide slippery surfaces. Wear shoes with good traction and take your time when walking outside. Allow extra time when coming and going to help prevent falls.
Our team is here to help. If you experience a housing-related emergency during winter weather, please contact LCHA’s on-call maintenance. Please communicate all other work orders to the housing office.
