Our Mission
The mission of the Lancaster City Housing Authority is to ensure access to safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for individuals and families with low to moderate incomes. We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our residents by offering housing that meets their needs while fostering a sense of community. Through our efforts, we aim to create stable, secure living environments that promote personal growth, self-sufficiency, and long-term success.
Our History
The Lancaster City Housing Authority, established in 1949, is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and operates as a municipal authority under state law. While not a department of Lancaster City, our funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
More Than Just Housing
The Lancaster City Housing Authority (LCHA) provides much more than housing. Thanks to the skill and dedication of its professional staff, nearly 1,500 families in Lancaster City receive not only affordable, quality housing but also access to high-quality self-sufficiency programs.
A housing authority is often more complex and impactful than most people realize. Public Housing residents and Section 8 clients are hard-working, law-abiding members of the community. They are deserving of the assistance they receive, with many actively working toward higher education, better job opportunities, and home ownership.
