Providing Resources for a Stronger Lancaster

For over 75 years, the Lancaster City Housing Authority has been dedicated to serving our community by providing affordable housing and community resources to eligible persons, couples and families within the City of Lancaster, PA. We manage 469 public housing units, including 164 for families and 305 for the elderly/disabled, and administer 1,003 Section 8 Housing Choice Program vouchers to connect with participating private landlords.

Notice: Public Housing 5 Bedroom Waiting List Is Now Open

Waiting List Application Overview

The LCHA (Lancaster City Housing Authority) Public Housing 5-bedroom waiting list is now open from August 27th at 10:00 am and will remain open until 10:00am on August 28th.

Applicants must have a family composition of a minimum of 6 people to a maximum of 10 people to qualify for a 5-bedroom or to be eligible to apply.

No applications will be accepted after 10:00 am on August 28th.

Applications will be placed on the waiting list in the order received (date and time). Placement on the waiting list does not indicate you are eligible for rental assistance. A final determination of eligibility will be made when you are selected from the waiting list, including verifying household income.


Guidelines


The following are our guidelines, to determine bedroom size. The LCHA’s occupancy standards are as follows:

  • Single person families will be allocated a zero or efficiency/studio.
  • Head of household and co-head of household will share a bedroom.
  • All other household members will be two persons per bedroom regardless of gender with the following exceptions.
    • A: Persons under the age of 18 will not be required to share a bedroom with persons 18 years of age or older.
    • B: Live-in aides will be allocated a separated bedroom. No additional bedrooms will be provided for the live-in aide’s family.


Important Information


Your completed application will be held electronically on the waiting list. When your application is selected, we will contact you for more information and to complete the screening process.


We are required to take your family’s gross income into account when determining eligibility. Total income means all the money you and all members of your household receive each month from all sources. This includes income from a job, welfare, Social Security, SSI, pensions, support (voluntary or court ordered), interest income, etc. Gross income means the amount received before any deductions, such as taxes, etc.

We require that you keep your application up to date. If you cannot be reached at the mailing address and email address listed on your application, it will be withdrawn. Please report any of the above changes within ten (10) days as it is very important that your information is accurate and current.
